A doctoral candidate is a student pursuing further studies after a Masterīs degree. The postgraduate degrees offered by The Faculty of Technology at the University of Oulu are Licentiate of Science (Technology) and Doctor of Science (Technology). In certain cases the Doctor of Philosophy degree can also be awarded. The doctoral degree may be taken directly after the masterīs degree, the licentiate degree is not compulsory.
The departments at the Faculty of Technology are participating in several graduate schools. These postgraduate programmes are offered jointly by several Finnish universities. The departments of the Faculty also offer postgraduate programmes of their own.
